Our school recently adopted a new reading curriculum, which is a workshop model. Fortunately, I have a collection of leveled books for our library. The book boxes will help tremendously in allowing the students to place a variety of books for their independent reading time. Having a way that they can store them in a special box will help tremendously with managing 19 first graders! Each student will have their own reading box that will help them become even stronger and independent readers. They will have an opportunity to select the books that are just right for them and place them in a secure book box! We won’t have to worry about the plastic book boxes falling apart on the bottom. Our current cardboard ones keep falling apart because they’re stuffed with so many books the kids are eager and excited to read. I’d also like to provide an opportunity for children to build, design and have more time to collaborate with their peers in a creative way. Having tubs filled with a variety of hands on activities like magnets, games, discs will allow children to socialize with one another and get them excited to start the morning!
