During middle school, art students learn about the elements of art which are: Line, Shape, Form, Texture, Space, Value and Color. Artworks are created to represent each of the elements they learn. The watercolor pencils and brushes I am seeking will used by students to create their own color wheels using only red, yellow and blue (the primary colors) to create the secondary and intermediate colors. Once the colors have been applied, the students will use the brushes to add water and mix the colors together creating a brand new color! This is the foundation of color. When they have mastered an understanding of how color works, they will incorporate tints and shades to further their color palettes to incorporate all the colors they will ever need to create their works of art. By this point the students will have an understanding of value, as well as color. They will study how the human eye sees color and how color is used in works of art to solicit emotion in the viewer. They will begin to understand that art is a personal journey best accompanied by the Foundations of Art.
