Throughout the year, our class covers units describing math and science concepts that can be abstract for young learners with little to no background knowledge. Young learners often have short attention spans to topics that are not directly meaningful to themselves. To catch their attention and create meaningful connections, I teach concepts through discovery and play opportunities. Play lays the foundation for higher-order thinking and later learning formal STEM concepts. Our youngest learners thrive in an environment filled with thought-provoking materials. The requested developmentally and age-appropriate math and science materials will give my students the opportunity to be creative, explore, and develop questions about the world around them. This project will increase collaboration, problem-solving​ skills, critical thinking, and creative play. The best part of my day is seeing my students discovering the why behind their questions and seeing their ‘ah-ha’ moment! These materials will provide so many of those unique learning opportunities!
