Integrating movement into primary education is vital but can be difficult. The current first grade curriculum asks kids to focus for long periods of time. In addition, our classrooms can be crowded. In an effort to incorporate more movement in the classroom, I have researched the use of adjustable standing desks as an option. Standing desks have been found to increase student engagement in the classroom. There are not many standing desks made to accommodate the size of first graders, so I have chosen to purchase narrow tables that can be adjusted in height. I would also like to try wobble stools for those children that need to move or fidget while learning. Both items will benefit children who require movement in order to process information and stay engaged. Utilizing standing desks, wobble chairs, low work tables, traditional desks and other means of activity will allow students to discover how they learn best. This knowledge will benefit each individual as they progress through their educational journey.
