My students love to express themselves through art. For many, it is their happy place, where they find comfort during stressful times. I am one of the few teachers at our school who is fortunate enough to teach every student. However, ¼ of our student body has opted for Distance Learning during the 2020-2021 school year. For those who will have face-to-face learning, materials can no longer be shared. Therefore, students will need their own art kits filled with crayons, pencils, colored pencils, and a sharpener to be successful in art class. Most students are not able to afford these materials. However, I would like to create individual kits through the purchase of bulk art supplies. Having a personal art kit will give all my students the same access no matter of their family's financial status or capability of sourcing their own supplies during this pandemic. Our school plans to open in the fall, but a blended or Learn from Home model may be adopted based on the spread of Covid; these art kits can be used in all 3 scenarios. Kits may be organized by homeroom and delivered by utility cart as I visit classrooms each week. Having their own art supplies will help keep my students safe and allow them to grow their imagination whether at home or at school.
