Kindergartners today are faced with more rigorous and demanding academic requirements than in past years. Many of the essentials such as fine motor, handwriting, problem solving and social skills have been pushed aside more and more. The best learning takes place when students are motivated and engaged in what they are learning. I believe all of these things can be done through strategic planning for the activities that are being used. First, I would love to have an iPad so that I can incorporate technology into my ELA and Math stations. Second, I want to create a fine motor station to help my students improve their fine motor and handwriting skills. The activities I have chosen to help get my fine motor station off and running include the giant lacing beads, getting ready to write gumball grab, learning lacers, and the lace-a-word uppercase beads. Third, I am requesting some sensory beads for my sensory table and the shapes feel and find sensory tub. I will put all of these activities and materials in my literacy and math stations to help make reviewing math and literacy concepts taught more fun and engaging. Finally, I want to have more STEM activities to encourage problem solving and social skills with my students. The activities I have chosen to help with this include the blocks and blueprints learning center and the Geostix. These tools that I am requesting will help my students to be more engaged in their learning while still having fun and encouraging fine motor, handwriting, problem solving and social skills. Thank you for your help and support!
