Most kids these days need more stimulation, more movement, and more options. Being able to provide my students with flexible seating would allow them all of these opportunities! Imagine a classroom full of cool toned chairs, bean bags, and decorations that help you feel calm. Imagine being able to rotate around the classroom during station time and letting your body and mind be comfortable and relaxed. Would you or your children get more work done? I know my 24 ten year olds would, which is why we need more seating options! In my classroom I currently have long tables with 4 chairs at each table, due to this set up students are more restricted in where they can sit. Our other options are the floor, a rug, and a very old couch. Having more flexible seating options would make our class feel like home as well as a calm and safe atmosphere. Rolling chairs, balance ball seats, floor mats and bean bag chairs will help with the most wiggly of learners. Where the lower table will help with group work and to strengthen collaboration. In my classroom, more movement opportunities means more learning!
