When I go to the public library to curl up with a good book or settle down to read one of my favorites at home, I NEVER choose a hard surface, like the floor, to lay on! Instead, I find the most comfortable spot I can so I can enjoy immersing myself in a good book. Students are no different! When they visit my classroom library every day to read, either as part of their Daily5 or just for fun, there is nowhere comfortable to sit except for on the rough classroom carpet or in the hard plastic chairs that they drag over from their desks. Sometimes they even head for the school library where the "comfy chairs" can be found! What they find they are missing in my classroom library is something to make that reading experience one that they can sink into - much like I sink into my couch or a comfy chair with a good book by my side! I want to make that experience of visiting my classroom library one that is desirable and something they look forward to every day. KORE WOBBLE STOOLS, BEAN BAGS, and COMFY FLOOR SEATS serve a dual purpose. First, they give kids options for places to sit in the library to make their reading experience more comfortable so they will want to stay longer - which means they will be reading more! The best way to become a better reader is to read more, so that's a win-win solution! Additionally, they can double-up as alternative seating options for students who might otherwise not be able to sit and concentrate on a good book, without overwhelming the classroom space. My students are eager to gain knowledge, and these seating options will help them on that journey!
