My students face many challenges in their lives outside the classroom. We are located in a high poverty neighborhood that is plagued by the problems associated with low socioeconomic conditions. My students know that when they enter our classroom each and every day I am going to challenge them to become a better version of themselves. I hold all of my students to high academic and behavioral expectation regardless of the circumstances they face in the outside world. While studying ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies, we learn life lessons in perseverance, collaboration, honesty, respect, and personal responsibility that translate to their lives outside these four walls. My students have limited resources and background knowledge, therefore they lack the foundation and frame of reference that most students take for granted. I am making it my mission to fill in these gaps and provide them with the rich content knowledge and experiences they will need to be successful in life.
