Students in kindergarten become readers. I remember when I was in kindergarten we learned letters and played. Real books are essential for students who are learning to read. My school district doesn't provide books for my students to read. I've taught kindergarten for one year but 20 years at the intermediate level. Almost everything I have purchased with my own money won't work for my new little students. I'm starting over and hoping for a little help from my friends. In my classroom we learn to read, write, play and get along together. Emergent reader books build confidence in my kindergarteners. I teach my students letters, sounds, word families, and sight words. When children hold real bound books in their hands that have colored pictures they feel like readers! Students can't wait to read the words to their parents, partner, teacher, and the class. Theses beginning books create magic for beginning readers!
