My students need the freedom to choose how they want to learn, stay focused, and increase collaboration and motivation. Learning in our traditional seating arrangements can sometimes be boring and challenging for any student. Imagine having to sit on a hard, cold, metal chair all day for 7 hours Monday through Friday at work? Research has shown that individuals who sat on these balance balls and other forms of comfortable seating such as stools, cushions, and balance discs were more productive, burned more calories, increased participation, and were much more motivated to work on their assigned tasks. Your generous donation to this project will allow my fifth grade students to enjoy learning in a different and innovative classroom setting that will be conducive to their comfort and academic success. Flexible seating will help some of my students who have ADHD to be more focused and minimize interruption while sitting on balance balls. Students with problems sitting comfortably on a hard chair can now sit patiently on stools, balance balls, padded cushions, or a shaggy rug, making learning easier and comfortable. This will change the way my students will interact with one another during collaborative group activities and on an individual basis.
