We live in a rural community where many of my students come from low-income families. We are a Title I school, so a big percentage of these students receive free or reduced lunch. This creates a challenge when assigning projects in the classroom because not all parents can afford to buy supplies. A Cricut machine to use in the classroom will benefit us in this way and in several other ways. We would love to have a Cricut Explore machine to be able to create graphic designs for student presentations in project-based learning. In seventh grade, I teach a short story unit. As a culminating project, I would love for my students to transform a short story into a play to perform for the elementary school using puppets as the characters. They could use the Cricut machine to create the background scenes of the different settings in the play. Students would also be able to use this machine in many other ways throughout the school year with different assignments such as creating posters, timelines, or plot diagrams. Teachers could also use the Cricut to design creative lessons to keep students motivated. Centers could also be created having vocabulary flashcards, sorting activities for reading or grammar, anchor charts, reward certificates, and even bulletin board letters. The possibilities are endless. Please consider funding this project so my students will have the tools necessary to create extraordinary presentations and projects in the classroom.
