In our school, students earn points (we call them shells) for positive behavior. These behaviors are referenced in our school creed as well as displayed on a matrix throughout the building. Students redeem their shells for different privileges. One way they can redeem their shells is at the SHELL STORE. Each day, the store has school supplies. Students who may have misplaced something, forgot it at home or cannot afford it can 'purchase' supplies with their shell balance. Once a week, fun items are available in the store and varies based on donations of items. Students love the store and its popularity has grown! This concept has taught them about what behaviors earn the shells, basic banking skills or earning, spending and saving, as well as being responsible to be prepared for the school day. With shells being used to purchase supplies, stocking the store is difficult without amazing donations. As you can see by the list, supplies are much needed and used. Keeping the store stocked motivates students to continue demonstrating positive behavior!
