My students attend one of the first Los Angeles public schools built as a span (grades kindergarten through eighth). Teachers came together to create a plan where students can obtain a college bound education. 28 students are Latinos and 1 African American who qualify for Title I funding (98% of the school qualifies as low-income). More than half of my class is performing below grade level in reading and mathematics. The parents are very involved and have high interest in having their children succeed. The students are very dedicated and hard working due to the culture of the school and their parent's involvement. Most of the students cannot afford the latest technology (i.e. computers, Internet access, and printers) which is a Common Core State Standard (CCSS).
