The upcoming school year will be my 17th year of teaching 9th graders, ranging in age from 14-16, at a 7th through 9th grade junior high school. My students come from very diverse backgrounds. Over 90% of my students receive free/reduced lunch, and many are also from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. Regardless of their challenges, the majority of my students are motivated to learn and make the most of their high school experience, so that they can succeed in college and/or careers.
