Our kids are great! Unfortunately, their autism and cognitive delays make it hard for them to communicate and to have their sensory needs met in regular education classrooms or even special education classrooms. Their need for sensory input and movement are almost constant and because they have difficulties with communication skills, they often became overstimulated causing meltdowns, aggression, and lack of productivity in the classroom. Our classroom is geared for them with muted lighting, a cushioned corner, a lot of open space to move, and limited distractions. With these changes, they're able to stay calm, be happy, and make academic gains.
