Freshman English is a hard year on the students because it is a huge transition for them. We have a Ninth Grade Academy which helps students make this transition a little smoother, but nevertheless it is just a hard one. We are a low income school with large class sizes. We are a rural farming community with a huge push for trade education. But I am a firm believer that even in the trades the student must learn more than basic English. These students are funny and smart, but are being told they can't do it everyday by the outside world. That is just NOT true!!
