In the words of Henry David Thoreau, “Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other’s eyes for an instant?” By reading and listening to these books, our 4th graders will understand the crucial skill of perspective taking: seeing the world through another person's eyes. Learning through picture books and read alouds will help our students to appreciate and celebrate the differences within our world! The books we have chosen for this project will lead to meaningful class discussions and answering questions the students may have about others, their history, and their lives. We want our students to see not just struggles others go through but the joys of everyday life. This will lead to respect and inclusion of anyone they encounter later in life. Books plant seeds of thought that can blossom in change and a celebration in diversity!
