Reading around the World in Spanish will make a difference to my students' learning by offering them opportunities to use their Spanish language skills in a real and authentic manner. They will be able to read stories that intertwine culture with engaging stories. Having actual books to hold and be responsible for in-class will mimic what they do in their English classes. I found 6 fictional Spanish books for my classes to enhance the print-rich classroom that I am striving to create. My current classroom library is very small, varied, and at random reading abilities, from preschool to native level, all purchased by me. My students have repeatedly expressed interest in independent reading, and I believe that my project will provide them with meaningful opportunities to do so. These new books will provide my students with more choices when we do Free Voluntary Reading and offer more natural conversation starters about the similarities and differences in the culture they're reading about to their own. Reading more will increase their Spanish reading ability and their overall reading stamina in their other classes too.
