The materials I am requesting will be used in my English Language Development (ELD) class of 7th and 8th grade students. Prior to testing, the students were asked what type of lessons they would most enjoy at the end of the year. The majority of students showed an interest in reading a novel and doing an end of year final project. After giving the students some novel suggestions, the final vote was decided for The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It is important that each student have their own book to read and learn from. There is great value in holding a book, turning each page, and reading the words it contains. We will be diving into this popular title following the ELD statewide tests. We will be using the book, along with interactive notebooks to analyze and discuss important themes of the novel. We will also be using the book as a basis for an end of year collaborative project on dystopian societies. My students and I look forward to reading this novel together, and using the materials for future classes.
