We are requesting books that will help my students to begin to fall in love with reading. Our titles include A Wrinkle in Time, First Team, The Sixth Man, New Kid and many more. My students' reading levels and reading comprehension levels are very low, and that is partially attributes to the types of books available to them at school. The books in our school library are very dated and not very current to the interest of the students today. Reading books at this young age will also allow my students to expand not only their reading vocabulary, but also their perspective on the world. At their age, their worldview is very limited, and by reading, they can be transported to different worlds, eras, and see the world through different lens. I am a very big advocate for reading, and I want my students to share in that love. Also, my classroom consists of doing interactive notebooks and anchor charts; one problem we run into is having limited supplies to complete the interactive notebook pages, so sharing happens a lot, causing the process to slow down and eat up more time. Additional art type supplies such as crayons and scissors will help to make those concepts relatable to my students and help make class more fun!
