Through using the Orff method of teaching music, the percussion instruments would be used to teach the music TEKs. My goal is to eventually have enough instruments for every student to have one to use. I have worked out a 7-year plan on buying the number of instruments needed. The music TEKs would be taught through playing the xylophones. I would break a piece of music down and teach it in three parts- movement, accompaniment, and singing. All students would learn each part. Then I would put the class into groups and rotate the groups until each one has played all three parts. I want the students to feel knowledgeable enough to create their own music with these instruments. The addition of more classroom instruments would help me achieve this goal.
