These journals will be used in writers' workshop which is a time each day students learn to verbally and visually communicate stories and ideas that have happened in their lives. Each journal page in the notebook includes a picture space for first graders to create illustrations that represent and explain the student's stories. Writing journals include first grade handwriting lines that are color coded. These colorful lines give extra support to my children providing them with a visual reminder of what line to start on and what line to finish writing each letter on. Paper doesn't have to be copied or stored in folders that can come out and get lost more easily. Assessments can be gathered easily looking through the journal to see each student's progress as they improve stories and write new ones. Students will end up with a book about themselves and their own life experiences, dreams, and knowledge they have learned.
