The books chosen for this project can be divided into 4 themes: bullying, perseverance/growth mindset, traditions, and social skills. For each theme, I will use the books to create literacy units for the K-4 students who attend reading intervention in my classroom. Comprehensible oral language skills and an adequately developed vocabulary are fundamentally critical in the development of fluent, accurate readers who are strong comprehenders of text. The students will have accessibility to all of the books through guided reading, vocabulary activities, oral language activities and cooperative learning activities. These books are engaging, quality literature which is pertinent to the children's lives. Not only will the students be using these books to build their literacy skills, but we will also be using them to build social skills through discussions, and vocabulary, oral language and cooperative learning activities.
