Our students are working every day to improve their reading fluency and comprehension skills, but to make this happen, they need to read and be read to every day. They need headphones to listen along to reading passages, freeing them to hear while seeing passages above their reading levels to build bigger vocabularies. In our class, I read aloud to students the novels that their peers in the large classroom are reading independently. My hope is to have carpets and pillows for the students to relax while listening and forming mental movies, experiencing all of the wonders that reading a novel brings.
