"Who are we? We are STEM!" Our students are scientists, technologists, engineers, mathematicians, readers, writers and speakers who dream of someday changing the world. We know that to accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream! This coming year, my second grade students will present a variety of reading abilities and levels when they enter the classroom. Many do not have have enough reading materials at home to support their reading, and we do not have multiple copies of NF texts to use in the classroom. Scholastic News and Time for Kids solve the problem of approachable texts, multiple copies, and consumables that our students can take home. The benefits to "consuming" quality, factual reading materials will support their growth and development as readers. Each of these periodicals has a per student rate for the yearly subscriptions which is nominal compared to multiple copies of books.
