My students have been sitting on a clean, but very old rug. The rug is becoming a tripping hazard. This rug is one solid color, with no colored squares, shapes, or pictures to provide a specific place for each student to sit. I spend quite a lot of time at the end of the summer using colored tape to measure out squares in order to provide students with defined seating areas. It would be wonderful to use that time to prepare other areas of my classroom for the arrival of my students. A new rug with padding will help these young learners concentrate better on lessons presented, and provide a much nicer work area for them to use. Students use the rug area for math and literacy activities involving manipulatives, puzzles, partner talk, and group work. This is our classroom meeting area as well as where we gather to listen to read aloud stories!
