This Spring, my students will be attending an English Festival at a local university where Neal Shusterman is the featured Young Adult author. As participants of the festival, they will have the opportunity to hear Mr. Shusterman speak, and some may even have the opportunity to interview him. Prior to the festival, they will read 2 of his books as part of the festival requirements. I would like to expand upon the 2 required books and do a complete author study with my students. By reading multiple books by the same author, students are able to begin to analyze author's craft in a way that cannot be fully accomplished by reading only one work. This allows us to explore this Common Core standard in depth, as well as getting students excited to study an author they will then get to meet.
