I am building a brand new therapy office from scratch, so I have included items that cover a wide variety of functions. I will need basic office resources such as paper, pens, scissors, etc. I have also included things such as wall hangings, an essential oils diffuser and additional lighting options in order to create an office environment that feels safe, soothing and relaxing. There are a wide variety of craft materials and board games I have requested in order to build rapport with students who have a hard time trusting new adults. I have also included specific therapeutic intervention tools such as a sand tray and sand tray figurines. Trauma research has shown that talk therapy is most effective when combined with a sensory experience. Things we can see, touch, smell, taste and do all help access the brain in unique ways. Each student is different and has different sensory needs, and my goal is to be able to provide as many therapeutic interventions for them as possible. I would love to be able to provide many different modalities of therapy for each individual student, as well as an environment where the brain feels safe to relax, grow and learn.
