I teach six different classes of general biology. In past years, I have been unable to conduct many labs during the year due to various reasons. I am a firm believer that students need to DO science to better understand science. My main goal this year is for students to conduct at least one lab each unit. Thus far, students have performed labs on termite behavior, sugar comparisons, enzymes and observing cells. I have found that it is easier for students to work on trays during their labs (at their tables, moving from station to station). I purchased aluminum cooking pans from the dollar store, however, they have been lackluster in their function. The trays bend when students carry materials in them and this is potentially hazardous. If we had these stable lab trays to use, our labs would function more smoothly with less accidents and therefore a better experience for the students.
