Reading is crucial to student learning. It is utilized and implemented across all core curriculums. My classroom is a revolving door for struggling readers. As a reading specialist, I work with students that have deficiencies in the five components of reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension). My intervention classes incorporate research-based strategies to improve students mastery of skills needed to progress as a successful reader. I also conduct professional development for teachers on how to implement the reading program, provide differentiated instruction and analyze student data. My goal is to utilize any strategies, activities, projects or materials in or outside my classroom to support the needs of my students.
