All students will have the opportunity to participate in monthly "Maker Menu" lunchtime activities. These are 2-day workshops, where students select from a list of different options, supporting STEAM initiatives in our district. For example, our first workshop menu will include four choices: “Trashy” Fashion design, Popsicle stick architecture challenge, DIY jewelry and Magical circuit centers . Students need Littlbits electronic kits to create working circuits, showing students future career options with science and engineering. Students will use duct tape and hot glue guns to create wearable art of their own design out of recycled materials. Later in the fall, the menu grows, adding one new challenge each month. Students may continue their work on a previous challenge, or find a new interest. We are hoping to impact over 250 students each month and are excited about the parent volunteers who have reached out to help! School is about more than listening to the teacher, memorizing facts and taking tests! These lunchtime opportunities allow our students to explore topics of their choice, build collaborative work skills and become self learners. By supporting these activities, all students find a place to show their strengths. Who knows? The creator of something bigger than the Internet is probably sitting in my school, and just needs to push the right button!
