We are requesting a classroom library that is diverse in color, content and characters and which books will provide my students with reading experiences where they can see themselves in the characters. I designed this project to fulfill the need my students have to see themselves in the books they read. These books will open the door for my students, as well as students of other teachers, to read stories that connect with the life experiences that they have had. These books were consciously picked to provide stories with characters of color, discuss LGBTQ rights, women's stories, cultural stories, and many more. Without a school library, students depend on my class library for access to works of literature. It is my duty to provide a variety of equitable and diversified books where my students can identify with the characters and the people who write them.
