My students make up what I lovingly call my "hectic horde of harmony," because they are the collective embodiment of intellectual order and behavioral chaos (though not to any majorly disruptive degree). They're a diverse set of English IIIs and IVs that eagerly devour content that directly relates to them, including but not limited to: graphic novels, manga, indigenous and queer narratives (fiction and nonfiction alike), horror short-fiction, modern and post-modern ideographic poetry, and more. These students hail from all kinds of backgroundsdemographics land at predominantly students of color from low-income neighborhoods in the rural Southeastand they crave solidarity, representation, dignity, and comfort. They want to be seen as individuals as well as burgeoning adults, and because they are my "horde," I seek to vouch for them in this respect.
