Distance learning has inspired me to research and evaluate my own purposeful use of technology in my teaching. My young mathematicians have worked hard to navigate new platforms as they engaged in daily mathematics tasks via Google Classroom or during our live sessions via Google Hangout. We have explored many channels such as YouTube, Flipgrid, and Padlet, among others. I continue to come across new technology as I gear up for the upcoming school year, and I realize that my current tools are not meeting the needs of today's advanced features. Needless to say, I am in dire need of upgrading my technology in order to best support my learners. With an Apple MacBook and iPad I will be able to incorporate various interactive resources that will help to engage my students in rigorous and fun mathematics investigations. During our Google Hangout live sessions, I will be able to present on the iPad while simultaneously interacting with my students face-to-face on the computer. Having on iPad and laptop will also allow for flexibility in the space I choose to teach in. I can demonstrate student thinking with concrete mathematics tools either on the floor or on a table without ever having to turn the camera away from my face. The computer I was using had many glitches and oftentimes did not align with the requirements of the software I needed to present a lesson. Having a more advanced computer will enable me to meet with my students on Google Hangout efficiently, incorporate digital programs, and communicate with them effectively. Please help me get this project funded so I can do a better job during distance learning and in the classroom.
