Our school is in rural Alabama. Our student population is roughly 800. Our school was built in the late 1920s and has many updated buildings along the way. Students are typical young teenagers. They like the latest and greatest of everything from music, technology, fashion, etc. Our students' reading levels are a little below national averages. It is a challenge to entice them to read books when so many of the library books are older. There are many series that the students enjoy reading, but the funds to purchase the latest books in these series are limited. Each week I have to tell a couple of students that I don't have the book they are looking for. I continue to make a list of items desired, but with limited funding I just cannot keep up with their demand.
