The first thing my students do when they walk through the doors is go to my library and find a book to read. They know this time is theirs for reading, learning, and growing. My students read several hours a week many finishing larger books, such as Harry Potter or Divergent, in a matter of a few days. I want to be able to continue to encourage my students to grow in their reading. Many of my students were (and still are) affected by the impact of Hurricane Harvey. After such a tragic event, I want to allow their love, imagination, and desire for reading to continue to strengthen. With more books in my class, my students will have access to a wider variety of fiction and nonfiction books. Students are allowed to read them at school and borrow them when they get home.
