Flexible seating options will help these kids have some control over their own lives, which they often have little control over. Though I only have a year with them, I want them to reach their greatest potential. By offering flexible seating, they don’t need to worry about sitting at a desk and being uncomfortable or wanting to move around. Providing flexible seating options such as the stadium chairs, a couch to sit on, and cushions, so they can sit where ever they may be comfortable in the classroom provides the students with the ability to focus on learning, rather than sitting still in a traditional rigid desk and chair setting. The futon I have added to the list is very versatile, it can be a couch for students to sit upon, or some students learn well laying down, so they can be comfortable while learning. The stadium chairs can be moved around the classroom, so the students can sit wherever they feel most successful, while still being comfortable and leaning back if they need to. The small round cushions are a basic options for students to use if they just want to lay or sit on the floor. They will provide a softer spot for students to sit rather than the hard industrial floor. Having the choice of sitting wherever they feel most comfortable with flexible seating will allow these children to focus on learning, and enjoy it.
