My students come to me with a wide variety of experiences, unique talents, and varying learning needs; yet, they all have one thing in common: their thirst for knowledge. In order for me to provide the best learning environment for my students, I need to differentiate my daily instruction to meet students where they are at. My goal with the blended learning model is to support student growth in 21st century skills including critical thinking, problem solving, time management, teamwork, and technology. To foster these 21st century skills and reach each and every one of my students, I have implemented a blended learning model which integrates a balance of teacher directed instruction, collaborative projects, technology-based learning, and project-based learning. All of this is done through small group rotations for ELA and math instruction. Chromebooks are an essential element to the blended learning model in our classroom. They allow for students to work at their own pace, on their own path. They can demonstrate what they know in creative ways, build technology skills, and digitally collaborate with peers. The blended learning model truly allows me to see each and every student's individual needs and growth and support their educational journey. I can adjust instruction and projects to meet student interests and areas of strength. Currently, our classroom has 8 Chromebooks. With a class of 32 and small groups of 10-11 students, this does not allow for each child to have access to the technology component of blended learning during our rotations. The addition of two Lenovo Chromebooks would greatly support our efforts to implement the blended learning model and allow each student to have access to technology components during rotations.
