My students love learning to play new instruments. They learn best when they get hands on experience with instruments. Because of spatial limitations, most of these experiences are limited to hand drums, and xylophones. These same space limitations make it difficult for an entire class to be playing instruments at one time. Ukeleles are a perfect instrument for students to have this type of experience. They are small enough to be stored in the classroom all the time. They are also quiet enough that every student can be playing at the same time. This would be an invaluable way for these students to experience an instrument they have never seen before, as well as an instrument from a different culture.
