My students are hard working boys and girls who don't realize what hard hard-work really is. They are rarely held accountable and are completely unprepared for high school or the real world. They see the world as whatever they can connect to on their cell phone, and know nothing else. They are consumed by text messaging, Facebook, and YouTube, but they are great kids. They know what they see and hear on TV. and on the streets, and unfortunately, that isn't helping them. Our school is one large school inside an even larger district. A place where computers are scarce, tablets are non-existent, and being caught up on technology is highly unlikely. However, my kids still love to succeed, and each time I expect more out of them, they give me more. They still want A's, it doesn't matter to them that they're from the low-economic portion of the inner city. Unfortunately, they are still overwhelmed by the gaps; gaps in education, gaps in economic standing, and gaps in technology.
