It has been proven over and over how much various forms of seating is beneficial to all students. It is especially beneficial to the students I teach. My students have various disabilities, including ADD, ADHD, and autism. They are always moving and seeking sensory input in any way they can. Various seating options will allow my students to switch their focus from their sensory needs to their work, allowing them to grow so much more as a student! During reading group, they could wiggle on a stool and read, instead of jumping around and rolling on the floor. During writing they could push their bodies down on a cushion instead of pushing their pencils down on the table and breaking them. During math, they could bounce their feet a little while focusing on the new numbers they are learning, instead of running around the room. These seating options will open up so many opportunities for my students and I am so excited to see how much more they are able to grow with these supports!
