Living in a small town that is only accessible by plane, my students don't have many of the opportunities that students in the rest of the country do. My students can't even go to a bookstore- the nearest one is a plane flight and hundreds of dollars away! Given that the price of gas here is over $7/gallon, many families can only afford the necessities. Life in rural Alaska has its challenges, but my students are working hard to learn and achieve.
