My students come from a low socio-economic background with limited access to literacy materials. Many are English Language Learners and do not have someone at home to read with. They all enjoy reading, especially about science and social studies, and want to learn as much as they can about all subjects. They often do not have access to the real-world experiences they need to understand the concepts, so we need to give them all the support we can in the classroom. Helping increase their reading comprehension will allow them to read about the things they have not yet experienced.
