The students at my school have a spectrum of disabilities that prevent them from completing basic reading, writing, and listening tasks independently. The majority of our students come from low socioeconomic households which makes our Georgia school a Title I school. Our school is 97% African-American and 3% other races. 87% of the students at our school receive free or reduced rate lunch. Students with disabilities make up 15% of the total student population. Outside of school, our students have little exposure to cultural or additional educational experiences. Most of our students come from a one/two-parent household where they work long hours and are unable to complete homework and provide educational support to our students. With this lack of exposure and support, many of our students tend to need more assistance with basic reading and writing skills. In spite of their disabilities and barriers our students have a strong desire to learn and produce quality work.
