Don't you agree that the books you found the most connection to during your own middle school years were those that had characters with whom you could identify? Please support me in creating a library that reflects the diversity of my classroom, so that each student may find a fictional character from whom they may learn some of life's best lessons. My 8th graders are diverse. Many come from immigrant households with parents who do not speak English at home. I hope to fill my library with books that focus on identity, relationships, and the process of balancing multiple cultures while simultaneously surviving the more typical blunders and obstacles of the notorious middle school years.
