My students are ripe for change. It is in this most important time of their lives that they create foundational habits. My twelve, thirteen, and fourteen year old kids grow up a community of Massachusetts. A large, post industrial town, this town is dubbed in poverty. Sporting a 53% high school graduation rate, many students in this community lack the support needed to have the opportunity to obtain a higher education, or even just graduate high school. They look like a true product of their environment, but they are children none the less. My students are immature, they laugh, they make fart noises, they think their breakup with their 8th grade crush is the end of the world, they ask ridiculous questions, and they love Justin Bieber. My students are like so many other students - they don't always understand why they are the way they are. I am a firm believer that every single child in this world can learn. Far too often, all they need is a bit of a push from someone who cares.
