Our Kindergarten classes have been allowed to implement several recesses throughout our day to help with the student as a whole (socially, emotionally, behaviorally, academically, etc.) We have found that with the 2 large pieces of equipment we have, the students tend to gather in those areas and conflict occurs more frequently. Our plan is to spread the items throughout the entire playground. The climbing dome, the teeter totter and digger can have multiple students playing on/with them in the center of our playground. The swing will allow our special needs friends to swing alongside of us as they join us for our recesses. My husband and I would like to build a rock climbing wall as well as a sandbox area. My hope is to give our students more opportunities for imaginative play and for build better social skills to positively impact their learning! Mr Rogers said, “Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning."
