With these new canvases, an opportunity and challenge come to my students. They are used to creating art on paper, but now they will be able to create art on canvases using oil pastels and paint. My students will have several different sizes of canvas for creating art; most of my students have never used canvas. Imagine my art room with students with disabilities working alongside general education students to produce art on canvases which the students may take home when dry. We will use various media; most of my kids know how to use oil pastels but we will learn new ways to use them along with paint on a canvas. My students love Jean-Michel Basquiat so we will all create a painting in his style as one of our take-home projects. Another of their favorite artists is Pablo Picasso whose cubist works are fun for them to imitate. I'm sure they will be bringing home their very own Picasso's and Basquiat's to hang on their walls. I want to thank you in advance for thinking about my students and their happiness and well-being.
