My students yearn to make, and finding creative ways for them to turn their ideas into reality is a central goal in my classroom. In this project, students will be tasked with designing and creating a musical instrument using the Nintendo Labo cardboard-based maker suite. This project will require students to demonstrate their knowledge of wave mechanics as they "tune" their instrument using software controls. By completing this project, students will learn about and demonstrate mastery of both physics and basic programming, including using physical inputs to control outputs. Additionally, students will explore applications of physics in contexts that are outside the typical realm of a physics classroom. Students will have the opportunity to explore various ways to make sound, and will connect the principles of physics (wavelength, frequency, amplitude) to the principles of music (harmonics, timbre, pitch). This equipment will also be used for other maker-based projects. Your donation will have a lasting impact on my classroom and will enable my students to continue to create the objects of their imagination.
